First Aid Training & Supplies
Registration Details: Vocational Educational and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) Registered Organisation number 90909.
Course Purpose: This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.
Course Format: This is a level 2 first aid course designed to allow the student to gain basic emergency information and life support skills.
Course Content: This course is divided up into three clusters of study. They are:
Basic Clinical Care:
- Basic anatomy and physiology.
- First aid treatment for: Abdominal injuries, allergic reactions, altered and loss of consciousness, bleeding, burns, cardiac arrest, casualty with no signs of life, chest pain, choking/airway obstruction, injuries, eye and ear injuries, head, neck and spinal injuries, minor skin injuries, soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains, dislocations, snake, spider, insect and marine bites, environmental impact such as hypothermia, dehydration, heat stroke, fractures, medical conditions including – cardiac conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory distress, seizures, shock, stroke, substance misuse.
- Emergency CPR and understanding of the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including when to use and when not to.

- Cultural awareness.
- Skills and limitations and stress management.
OHS Responsibilities
- Minimise hazards.
- Infection control OHS processes.
Course Delivery:
- Option 1: Blended Delivery:
5 hours face-to-face training following completion of a workbook prior to attending the practical first aid session. Also available is a re-certification course for those who have previously attended a first aid course no more than three years prior. - Option 2:
15 hours of face-to-face training.
Course Assessment: Throughout the course participants must demonstrate competency during a series of practical skills evaluation and written assessments, which may include the following:
- Observation and practical assessment.
- Questioning.
- Written tests.
- Scenario-problem solving.
- Attendance at all lessons.
Qualification Issued: Statement of attainment – HLTFA301B Apply basic first aid.
Certification: A4 display certificate plus a wallet card. Annual re-certification of CPR and skills recommended.
Target Audience: This course is suitable for anyone requiring a senior first aid certificate, especially relevant for employment.
